Palawan Polytechnic College Incorporated (PPCI) Institutional Profile
Established in 1979, Palawan Polytechnic College Incorporated (PPCI) stands as a private, non-sectarian institution of higher learning committed to the development of professional and skilled individuals in the province of Palawan. Under visionary leadership, PPCI has evolved from its humble beginnings into a premier educational institution offering a diverse range of programs.
Historical Evolution:
In 1979, Atty. Senforiano B. Alterado established PALAWAN POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE, INC. (PPCI), formerly known as Mindanao Aeronautical Technological School (MATS), marking the inception of maritime education programs in Palawan. The institution’s initial offerings included two-year programs in Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT), General Radio Communication Operation (GRCO), and Criminology, reflecting a response to the demand for Technical-Vocational Manpower.
To meet the evolving needs, one-year technical programs in Automotive Diesel Technology (ADT), Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Radio TV Technology, and Computer Programming were introduced in the same year. Additionally, Baccalaureate programs such as Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, Civil Engineering, and Customs Administration were offered.
Initially situated at San Juan Building, Taft Street, Puerto Princesa City, the college relocated in 1980 to its current location at Manalo Extension, Barangay Milagrosa, Puerto Princesa City. In 1986, recognizing the community’s needs, MATS underwent a transformation and became Palawan Polytechnic College, Inc. (PPCI) under the decision of the Board of Trustees.
Driven by the vision of serving Palawan through education, the curriculum expanded in 1981 to include four-year programs: Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Tourism, Computer Science,
and Entrepreneurship. Responding to the demand for seafarers, the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering was introduced.
After seventeen years of leadership, Atty. Senforiano B. Alterado appointed his eldest son, Mr. Eric Henry I. Alterado, as president in 1996. Atty. Alterado, the founder, assumed the role of Chairman Emeritus.
In 2005, PPCI introduced the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, gaining Board of Nursing recognition in 2009. The institution responded to the growing student population in the same year by constructing a two-storey building with enhanced facilities for various programs.
Ms. Aileen A. Alterado succeeded Mr. Eric Henry I. Alterado as College President in 2006, leading a period of continued growth and innovation. To meet the demands of the Palaweño community and address increasing needs, the college expanded its program offerings under TESDA, introducing programs in Consumer Electronics (NC II) and Automotive Servicing (NC II).
